The Church at Cedar Springs began in 1992 with fifteen people from three families forming a church-planting team sent from Lebanon Chapel in Lebanon, Oregon. We first met in local library meeting rooms, first in South Hill and then in Graham. Beginning to invite newfound friends, this new church grew rapidly.
Several home groups sprang up to compliment our weekly Sunday services. These small groups were formed to help knit people together and train them for the mission we were sent here for.
Overcrowding in the library meeting rooms forced a move into Frontier Jr. High in Graham. After about six years of meeting at Frontier, we would finally move to our present location at the corner of 224th St. E. and Orting Kapowsin Highway, first renting the office frontage in 1999 and then moving into the warehouse section in 2003.
In 1998, Community CARE Ministries began. CCM is a local church-based ministry formed for the purpose of assisting needy families in our community. Starting out by distributing bread to local neighborhoods, CCM currently distributes food to about 200 families each month. Future plans call for college scholarships for local High school seniors, training in the arts for at-risk youth, and career counseling and training for displaced workers.
In 2001, we purchased the Thrift Community Center, located two lots west of our meeting place. Putting it to use as a multi-purpose facility, it has been used as an activity center and classroom for our children, a food bank for the community and small-venue concert room.
In 2006, an extensive remodeling project was completed on the warehouse, converting it into our primary meeting space. The project included completely new interior walls, floors and stage, new sound and light systems and new seating.
In 2008, we purchased the lot between our two other properties, moving our Community CARE Ministries into an existing building there. This property is strategically located for any future expansion plans.
Currently we have completed a 'before and after school' childcare center in the form of Kids Safari. We are licensed for 36 children. The center includes a fully remodeled kitchen and bathroom, a commercial-duty play structure, computer stations and about ½ acre of outdoor play space.
